Soft Almond Orange Cookies

2 cups sugar
1 cup + 2 tbls butter
1 cup milk
2 eggs
2 tsp almond extract
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cream of tarter
1/2 tsp salt
5 cups sifted flour
1 1/2 cups chopped candied orange peels
1 cup California sliced almonds




Preheat oven to 350.

Mix dry ingredients together and set aside.

In large bowl, cream butter and sugar together.

Add eggs and beat well.

Mix dry ingredients into creamed mixture alternately with milk.

Stir in almond extract, orange peels, and almonds last.

Drop teaspoon sized globs onto greased cookie sheet.

Bake 14 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted in middle of largest cookie.

Total Time:  45 Minutes
